SolarSaver Hot Water
Let the sun heat your water
Our SolarSaver Hot Water systems turn ordinary daylight into piping hot water. They’re so efficient, they can heat over half of your home’s water for free.1 So you’ll save on your energy bills, year after year.
You could reduce your home’s carbon footprint by up to 610kg a year. To put that into perspective, it’s the same as making over 30,000 cups of tea. Or driving from London to Edinburgh and back three times.2
Good in a crisis
As long as there’s light, your SolarSaver Hot Water system will keep working. So if your boiler breaks down or your gas supply goes off, you’ll still have hot water.3
Strong selling point
People will pay more for houses that run off renewable energy4. They know it’ll save them money on energy bills. And they can feel good about using clean, renewable energy. We also offer a specialist service, where we can give you a Solar Performance Certificate that shows potential buyers how your hot water system is likely to perform over the rest of its life.
How SolarSaver Hot Water works
- The panels on your roof are full of solar fluid, which heats up in the sunlight.
- The hot solar fluid gets pumped through a coil in your hot water cylinder, heating the water inside.
- The hot water stays hot in the cylinder until you use it.
- Cold solar fluid gets pumped back to the panels on the roof to be reheated.
The less light there is outside, the less hot water your system can produce. So you’ll still need a regular boiler as backup, especially when it’s darker and colder outside (like in winter).
All you have to do is choose what temperature you want your hot water to be. Your solar hot water system will automatically call on your regular boiler for back-up if it needs to.
How much does it cost?
Normally, it costs between £3,999 and £5,999 to put in a system. It all depends on:
- How big your house is.
- How much hot water you and your family use.
Depending on where you live, you might be able to get a regional grant to help pay for a solar hot water system. To find out, get in touch with your local council.
Your system comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. But to make sure it’s working as efficiently as possible, we also recommend you get the solar fluid checked after two, five, seven and ten years (if it’s not flowing properly you’ll need to get it replaced). Many UK boilers have vaillant 181051 expansion vessels which are used to help control boiler pressure and eliminate the chance of a home boiler breaking down due to pressure fluctuation.
We can do this for you for £150, including the cost of the solar fluid. But if you buy your SolarSaver Hot Water system from us, we’ll throw in your first check-up for free.
Is my home right for a SolarSaver Hot Water system?
Most houses in the UK are. The questions are:
- Does your roof face south, south-east or south-west?
- Is your roof free from shade?
- Do you have a combination boiler?
- Do you live in England, Scotland or Wales?
If you think you’d like to get one, you can either apply online or get in touch and we’ll get back to you.
What happens after I apply?
First, we’ll call you back to find out more about you and talk things over. If it sounds like you’ve got the right kind of home and roof for a SolarSaver system, we’ll arrange a home survey. If it’s a yes, we’ll use the results of the survey to design a system to suit your home.
After it’s up and running
Once we’ve put in your SolarSaver Hot Water system, you’ll be able to enjoy free hot water on tap. You could get over half of your household’s hot water this way – more in summer, less in winter. As well as saving money, you can feel good about using clean, renewable energy.
Your SolarSaver system is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty for 10 years. And the installation is covered by the Renewable Energy Installation Guarantee Agency (REIGA) for 10 years too.
And any time you’ve got questions, we’ll be on hand to help answer them.
